Activities to Try
Since the weather is improving, spring is a great time to get students moving while reviewing the standards they’ve been working on all year.
Here are a few of our favorite classroom activities.
Plastic Easter Egg Sentence Structure Hunt
Hide sentences inside plastic Easter eggs and have students search for them around the classroom or outside. Once students collect several eggs, they sort the sentences into simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences.
Parts of Speech Egg Challenge
Assign each part of speech a different egg color. Students collect one egg of each color before writing a short story or poem using every word they found.
Encouragement Eggs
Before a quiz or standardized test, fill plastic eggs with encouraging messages for students. Let each student choose one before beginning the assessment to help build confidence and reduce test anxiety.
Build-a-Story Easter Eggs
Fill different colored eggs with characters, settings, conflicts, plot twists, and writing challenges. Students collect one egg from each category before writing an original story.
Escape Room Challenge
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, or spring by having students complete a standards-aligned Digital Escape Room. These activities work well as whole-class review, small-group competitions, stations, or even one challenge at a time throughout the week.
Task Card Scavenger Hunt
Hide ELA task cards around the classroom and let students work in pairs or small groups to solve reading, writing, grammar, or vocabulary challenges.

Digital Sorting Relay Race
Turn digital sorting activities into an active classroom competition by having teams race to correctly complete figurative language, sentence structure, or text structure sorts.
