A standard-aligned curriculum that promotes mastery

Congratulations! You are done with the school year and deserve a long break! 

But I know you…because I am sure you are probably a little like me…you have already started thinking about the fall, because we are teachers and can’t help it.

I implore you to take the long, relaxing break you deserve, and when you are ready to start thinking about next year’s curriculum (hopefully in AT LEAST a month from now, I have a new product line that you should definitely check out!

If you have been reading my blogs for a while now, you know that I am not overly fluffy in my teaching style. Teaching a standard-aligned, yet fun curriculum is very important to me. So, when I too started looking for resources to enhance different areas of my curriculum, I had a hard time finding exactly what I was looking for.

I wanted lessons that:

• Thoroughly aligned to the ELA Common Core
• Were rigorous, yet engaging
• Covered all the elements of a standard

As you can probably guess, this was difficult. I would sift through hundreds of different resources. Some were fun but didn’t match the level of rigor I was looking for. Some were challenging but didn’t completely align with the standard I intended to teach.

So…

I took it upon myself to create the products I needed.

Creating Common-Core, standard-aligned resources

I started a new product line that specifically breaks down the ELA Common Core standards into learning targets and then provides activities that specifically align with each learning target. (Learn more about standard breakdown HERE.) A summative assessment is also included so that you can ensure that your students have MASTERED the standard.

Check out the RL.7.1 product below.

With this resource based on RL.7.1, students read 4 passages and use passage prompts to cite evidence and analyze each selection. Students determine explicit vs. implicit evidence, make inferences, and support their claims using text evidence. This resource includes everything you need to check for understanding, including a summative assessment with a rubric.
